Does Yahoo scan my emails?
Yes. Yahoo's privacy FAQ says its automated systems may analyze all communications content, including Mail, photos and attachments, as it is sent, received and stored1. Yahoo uses this for product features, security and ads1. It also says it may manually review some commercial emails, after automatically removing details that could identify the recipient1.
Yahoo's privacy policy, updated in March 2026, says the ad interest profiles it builds from email rely on mail from retailers and other organizations, not personal emails between people2. Yahoo says opting out of interest-based ads also stops it analyzing your mail for advertising1.
