How we check
Every answer on this site says who can read your data, part by part, with a source for each part and the date we checked it.
What sealed means
Sealed means encrypted so that only you, and the people you share with, hold the keys. The company that runs the app can’t read it. Data that is encrypted on the way, or stored encrypted with keys the company holds, is not sealed, even when the company calls it encrypted.
The parts we grade
Every app in a group is checked against the same list of parts, so the rows line up:
- Chats and DMs: Messages, Group chats, Calls, Backups, Post-quantum.
- Email: Between its own users, To other services, Stored mailbox, Post-quantum.
- Photos and files: Your photos and files, Shared links and albums, Post-quantum.
- Calls and video: One-to-one calls, Group calls, Recordings, Post-quantum.
- Browsers: Connection to sites, Saved passwords, History and open tabs, Bookmarks.
- Password managers: Your passwords, Shared passwords, Post-quantum.
- Notes and docs: Your notes and docs, Shared with others, Post-quantum.
- Calendars: Your events, Invites to others, Post-quantum.
- AI chats: Your chats, Files you upload, Voice chats.
- Cameras and speakers: Recordings, Live view, Voice commands.
- Dating apps: Messages, Photos you send, Video dates.
Each part gets one of these marks:
- Only you: Sealed end to end, on by default. The company can't read it.
- If you turn it on: Sealing is there, but off until you switch it on.
- Partly: Some of it is sealed, some of it isn't.
- The company can read it: Encrypted, but the company holds the key.
- Not yet: Not offered yet.
Post-quantum means the sealing itself is built to resist future quantum computers. Post-quantum protection on the way, where the company can still read the content, doesn’t count.
Which plan
A status describes the free or personal plan most people use, in its default settings, on current versions. Options only a business admin can switch on are listed separately and never change a status.
Sources we use
The company’s own help pages, security papers, engineering posts, privacy policies and settings come first. Named independent research comes next. News is only used to date a change. Every source is listed on the app’s page with the date we read it. When we say something doesn’t exist, we say as of when.
Who does the checking
AI research tools gather the sources and draft each answer. A second, separate pass then opens every source again, checks every part and every sentence against it, and fixes or cuts anything it can’t confirm.
Secria’s own apps
Secria makes this site. Our apps are graded by the same parts and the same rules, and sorted by the same rule, as every other app. Our sources for them are our own published security pages, the same standard we hold other companies to. Where our app is only partly sealed, the table says so.
When apps change
Every answer shows the date it was last checked. When an app changes what it seals, the new status is logged with its date on the changelog.
