Is Apple Home encrypted?
Partly. Only you and the people you share your home with can see your camera recordings and live views in Apple Home. Siri requests that go to Apple's servers aren't sealed, though Apple doesn't keep the audio unless you opt in.

- Live viewOnly you and people you share your home withLive streams go straight to your devices or through your home hub, which passes them on without decrypting them.1
- Voice commandsPartlySiri handles many requests on your device, but others go to Apple's servers, which can keep their transcripts for up to two years.4, 5
- Who holds the keys
- Your Apple devices hold the keys to camera video and Home data, and Apple says it can't read either.
- What Apple can still see
- The text of Siri requests handled on its servers, tied to a random device identifier rather than your Apple Account, for up to two years.
Email is worth checking next: Gmail, Outlook and iCloud Mail can all read your mailbox. See which email services can.
Is HomeKit Secure Video end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Your home hub checks camera clips at home, then encrypts them before they go to iCloud, and the keys are stored with iCloud end-to-end encryption1. Apple says it's all end-to-end encrypted, and the video doesn't count toward your iCloud storage2.
You need an iCloud+ plan: the 50 GB plan covers one camera, 200 GB up to five, and 2 TB or more any number2.
Can Apple see my home cameras?
No. Apple says activity your cameras detect is analyzed and encrypted by your devices at home4, and its security guide says the home hub relays live streams without decrypting them1. Home data is end-to-end encrypted too3.
People you share your home with can watch live streams at home, and you decide whether they can see recordings or watch from away2.
Does Siri on HomePod record what I say?
Apple says Siri does as much as it can on your device, and it doesn't keep audio recordings unless you opt in to help improve Siri6. Requests that go to Apple's servers are tied to a random identifier, not your Apple Account, and Apple can keep their transcripts for up to two years5.
When Siri uses Private Cloud Compute, Apple says your data isn't stored or made accessible to Apple6.
